The Fish that Lived

“We have got it out of the house! We have saved the fish!” The two kids shouted excitedly while holding a glass jar. Inside the jar, a small golden fish was swimming peacefully, unaware that the building that used to be its home was leveled to the ground with a noise that could wake the dead and deafen the living. Yet, the lucky fish survived!

“And now, we will save the birds.” said the girl in yellow, her voice full of pride and passion. But were the birds as lucky as the fish? Could the two young heroes save them?

The fish that lived is a story of hope and love. It shows that life can be stronger than death, and that hearts full of love for all living things on our planet can be as powerful as the heroes in fairy tales.

Using the video of 'The fish that lived' as a stimulus, we've decided to organize a competition for the best short story, poem or song. Great if the story shows a positive message.

The conditions are as follows:

-The story/poem/song should be between 100 – 200 words and written in English.

-The competition is open to young people in Palestine aged 15 or under.

-The same competition will also be open to teachers in Palestine wherever they are. The same conditions will be applied. Both competitions will be judged separately.

-The prize for the winning entries in both competitions is a tablet.

-Entries should be emailed to info@handsupproject.org before the deadline of midnight on 30th June 2021.

- We will only accept one entry per person in both categories; Teachers and students .

All entries should include the full name, date of birth, school and English teacher of the applicant. For teachers’ entries, name, school and district should be included.
